Definitions of Care

Home Care Services

Services delivered at home to those recovering, disabled, chronically or terminally ill who are in need of medical, nursing, social, or therapeutic treatment and/or assistance with essential activities of daily living.

Medicare Certified Home Care Agencies

A homecare provider who is Medicare certified and met federal requirements for patient care and management. These services are paid for by Medicare or Medicaid.

Personal Care Agencies

Agencies that provide non-medical services such as companions, homemakers, chore services, transportation or other in-home services.

Hospice Care

At home or nursing home care for individuals with a life-limiting illness.

Inpatient Care

Hospice treatment in a hospital or inpatient care center.

Respite care

Care provided to patients in a nursing home or hospice residential care center to allow the patient’s caregivers a rest from their care-giving responsibilities.

Continuous care

Round-the-clock care provided for patients in need of close medical attention due to a medical crisis.
